Manchester City keeper Stefan Ortega is set to stay at the club it has been reported. Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich had been interested in a move for the City shot-stopper as reported by Florian Plettenberg.
After reporting the initial news of Bayern’s interest in the City keeper, Plettenberg has followed up his initial report with news that the potential move is off. In addition, he adds that the European champions had no intention of letting their backup keeper leave the club.
Stefan #Ortega & FC Bayern is close to be OFF now! After further discussions last night and this morning.
Main reason: ManCity/Guardiola still not willing to let him go. Not open for another No. 2 – but several options were offered in the last hours (Meslier & more).… pic.twitter.com/sZiPWoMIom

Fabrizio Romano had also previously reported on Bayern’s interest in Ortega. In addition to Bayern’s interest, Romano reported that Pep Guardiola had no intention of losing the keeper when the City boss was asked on the subject.
With the move of Stefan Ortega back to Germany now reportedly off, it will be a relief to Manchester City. With only two weeks left in the transfer window, it would’ve been a mad scramble to replace a backup keeper of Ortega’s quality.
The German keeper has become an integral part of the treble winners set up, despite not being the number one keeper. He always does his job admirably when called upon by Pep Guardiola. The qualities possessed by Ortega would’ve made the task of finding a competent replacement a difficult one.
