Jason Kidd gives opinion on GOAT debate
Dallas Mavericks head coach Jason Kidd. Dale Zanine-USA TODAY Sports

Jason Kidd is one of the greatest NBA players of all time. As an all-time legend at the point guard position, his understanding of the game is unmatched.

People can quibble about how good of a coach Kidd is or isn’t, but there no denying that his overall hoops knowledge is vast. Because of that, a comment that he made this week while speaking to the media really stood out.

Ahead of the Dallas Mavericks’ 2023-24 NBA campaign, Kidd spoke with reporters. During his conversation, he weighed in on something of a complicated debate: who the true GOAT is between LeBron James and Michael Jordan.

“I think LeBron will go down as the greatest to do it,” Kidd stated quite definitively.

A lot of people have weighed in on this subject.

Allen Iverson has weighed in on who the GOAT is. Kevin Durant has offered his take on it. Draymond Green has thrown in his two cents. Heck, even former U.S. president Donald Trump has given his opinion.

So it isn’t surprising that Kidd would do what all those others have done as well. What is a bit unexpected, though, is how confidently Kidd stated that James is the guy.

Usually the consensus among older legends is that Jordan is the GOAT.

One way or another, it will be interesting to see who history views as the superior player when everything is said and done. That will likely happen once and for all when James finally retires.
