The narrative around the Braves farm system is no secret. ESPN is just the latest national outlet to rank the Braves prospects among the worst in the league, and they are not wrong. In terms of depth, this group has lost a ridiculous amount in recent years due to graduations and trades. With that being said, there are still some worthwhile names to keep an eye on.

Braves 2023 first-round pick Hurston Waldrep has already made his way to High-A Rome after just a couple of starts, and joining him for the end of the season will be 2022 first-round selection Owen Murphy.

Rome is not a bad place to be right now if you’re a Braves fan. Both of Atlanta’s most recent first-round picks are in the rotation, and Kyle Wright will join them on Thursday for his first rehab assignment.

Owen Murphy is a consensus top-five prospect in the Braves organization. In 18 starts this season for the Augusta Green Jackets, he posted a 4.77 ERA. That’s not exactly brilliant, but he’s only 19 years old and is averaging 12 strikeouts per nine innings. His fastball sits in the low to mid-90s with movement, and he also mixes in a slider, curveball, and changeup. Murphy has a long way to go before he’s major-league ready, but he’s undoubtedly a prospect to watch as he begins to make his way up the ranks.
